Clinical conditions treated at the Spire Clare Park's Hand Practice:

  • All general conditions in hand and upper limb surgery
  • Acute hand trauma
  • Benign and malignant tumours
  • Finger joint replacement
  • Ganglion and cysts - A ganglion cyst is a swelling filled with jelly-like fluid, that sticks out from the lining of a joint or tendon, most often on the wrist or base of the palm. Surgery to remove the ganglion cyst is needed if it is painful or previous attempts to treat it have not worked.
  • Hand therapy
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome (nerve entrapment) - Carpal tunnel syndrome is a fairly common condition that occurs when there is too much pressure on a nerve in the wrist. Nerves enter the wrist through a narrow channel of bones called the carpal tunnel. Due to the lack of room, any swelling of tissue in or around the carpal tunnel can compress the nerve, causing tingling, numbness or pain in the hand, wrist or forearm.
  • Osteoarthritis of the base of thumb and wrist - Osteoarthritis is a form of arthritis that causes stiffness, pain and/or grinding/grating sensation when moving the joint.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis of the hand and wrist - Rheumatoid arthritis is a form of arthritis that causes inflammation, pain and/or swelling in the joints.
  • Soft tissue trauma
  • Tendon and ligament injuries (acute and chronic)
  • Trigger fingers (paediatric and adult)  Trigger finger means that the finger becomes ‘locked’ in position in the palm of your hand and is difficult to straighten. This is due to the tendon in the palm thickening and getting stuck.
  • Dupuytren's contracture - Dupuytren’s contracture is a fixed flexion contracture of the hand in which the fingers bend towards the palm and cannot be fully straightened.
