Mr Preston's Doctorate (MD) was awarded for research on the effects of gut hormones on stomach and bowel cancer.
Mr Preston is lead clinician for the regional oesophago-gastric unit based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, a position he has held since September 2006. Prior to this he was Consultant Surgeon on the internationally renowned Northern Oesophago-Gastric Unit, Newcastle upon Tyne, where he had worked since March 2000. He was the gold medal and prize winner in the intercollegiate FRCS(Gen) examination in 2000 and was the British Council Fellow at the National Cancer Center Hospital, Tokyo in 2001.
He is a laparoscopic surgeon who specialises in the management of diseases of the oesophagus and stomach with particular interests in radical surgery for cancer. He regularly teaches and trains surgeons to perform laparoscopic hernia repair, cholecystectomy & cholangiography (imaging the bile duct) and oesophago-gastric cancer surgery on courses at the MATTU Guildford. He also lectures and demonstrates surgical techniques at international meetings on a regular basis.
Mr Preston is married with two young children. He enjoys skiing, walking and mountain biking; all of which are less frequent since the birth of said ’two young children’. He also has a passion for sports cars and motor racing, fine wine and good food.
