Dr Natalie Direkze was educated at North London Collegiate school before completing an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at Cambridge University. During this course she realised that her interest lay in the medical specialties and chose to study medicine at St Mary’s Hospital (Imperial College, London). Following junior medical posts in London she was appointed to the North West London gastroenterology training programme in 1999. She completed a PhD in adult stem cell biology at Cancer Research UK in 2006 (Imperial College) prior to taking up a post as clinical lecturer at Barts and the London NHS Trust from 2007 to 2009. She was appointed to Frimley Park Hospital NHS Foundation trust as a consultant gastroenterologist and general physician in 2009.
Dr Natalie Direkze has an interest in luminal gastroenterology. She has a particular interest in inflammatory bowel disease and also upper gastro intestinal disorders. She has developed an interest in Barrett’s oesophagus and the newer treatments available for this such as radio-frequency ablation.She also has a keen interest in endoscopy and performs endoscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy. She also sees patients with other gastrointestinal symptoms and disorders such as change in bowel habit, anaemia, reflux symptoms and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Dr Direkze has a number of other interests including recreational cycling ( with her family) and Bikram yoga (on her own!)
