Spinal Fractures

Osteoporotic fractures are common in the elderly and particularly in post-menopausal women, but they can also be associated with other factors such as chronic steroid usage, cancer and trauma.

Spinal fracture patients can suffer from chronic back pain, loss of height, diminished appetite and difficulty sleeping. Over time patients with multiple spinal fractures may develop other serious complications including lung problems.

Most vertebral compression fractures are treated conservatively with pain killers, bed rest and bracing. However, a small percentage of patients are left with persistent pain and disability.
