Spinal and Pain Conditions
The spine is made up of bones called vertebrae, which are linked together. Cushions of tissue, called discs, sit between the vertebrae and act as shock absorbers. The vertebrae meet at joints called facet joints. The spinal cord runs through a channel in the spine. Nerves supplying the body branch off the spinal cord through spaces between the vertebrae. Back problems are usually related to pressure on one of more of these nerves.
There are many different causes of back pain. The information below is designed to provide you with further details following your diagnosis by a qualified practitioner, as well as to provide you with possible options available to you, both surgical and non-surgical, all of which will be discussed with you between you and your consultants.
