Mrs C, an active lady in her early 60’s, was referred to Mr Nikhil Pradhan by her GP in July 2008. She had been suffering unbearable pain in her back and hips for eighteen months and could not manage to walk without the aid of a stick and, towards the end, used a wheelchair.
Mrs C tells of her experience
"I consider myself very lucky to have had the treatment I did from Spire Cheshire Hospital"
Mrs C, Double hip replacement patient
"In 2008 I was admitted to Spire Cheshire Hospital for a double hip replacement operation. I had been in excruciating pain for eighteen months before I saw Mr Nikhil Pradhan. He told me at the consultation amongst other things that I was the sort of patient he liked to help because he could make the pain go away.
"I was very scared but all the staff from reception down to the nursing staff were efficient and kind. I met with the anaesthetist who talked me through how he would handle his side of the operation and then I was taken down to theatre. Several hours later I was back in my own room, and the one noticeable thing for me was that the excruciating pain I had in my legs had gone, all I felt was the discomfort of the operation and a pair of thighs to give an elephant a run for his money!
"Within eight days and a lot of hard work with the Physiotherapy department I was able to get about on crutches and walk up the stairs, then I went home with all the information I needed to continue my recovery. Eight weeks later I went back to work full time and three months later I was pain free and discharged by Mr Pradhan.
"At first I was scared when I was told I needed a double hip replacement and that I had no option to have both hips done at the same time. But my recommendation would be to anyone in a similar position to have them both done together. I am sure my speedy recovery was due to the fact that I was getting on with my life and not thinking about the next operation.
"What can I say about Mr Pradhan? Well, he is just wonderful, he delivers the goods!
"Sixteen months on and I am proud to say I feel completely different. I am two inches taller for a start and I can run up and down the stairs, jump in and out of bed without effort, sit down and stand up without hauling myself in and out of a chair or sofa, luxuriate in the bath with no problem getting in and out, put on my own stockings and do my own housework.
"I could wax lyrical about my health and my well being all day long, that’s how well I feel! In fact, I feel better than I did when I was in my fifties! The only thing I haven’t yet mastered is riding my bike but there’s time for this challenge yet!
"I consider myself very lucky to have had the treatment I did from Spire Cheshire Hospital."
