A heart patient fitted with a pacemaker has been hailed a ‘bionic man’ after receiving two new hips and two new knees – within a year.
“I have always been fit and active but I have been arthritic since before 1998. I couldn’t walk properly. My legs were badly bowed. Being so helpless was frustrating”
Mr P, patient at Spire Cheshire Hospital
Mr P, aged 67, was crippled with arthritis and faced life in a wheelchair. He had his hips replaced in March and May 2011 and his two new knees fitted on the same day in February, undergoing revolutionary surgery.
He can now drive and walk and says his life has been completely transformed. Mr P said “I have always been fit and active but I have been arthritic since before 1998. I couldn’t walk properly. My legs were badly bowed. Being so helpless was frustrating”
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Mr Nikhil Pradhan said “ It really is amazing, every replacement knee is tailor made using the latest digital technology. Recovery is quicker because the procedure is less invasive. Mr P Had a spinal epidural as this is safer for heart patients than having a general anaesthetic, he would have been in a wheelchair without this surgery”
Mr P added “ I can’t believe the difference it has made and how good I am, now I feel as free as a bird”
