Mr Sheen is a General Surgeon with a special interest in both hernia surgery and Liver/Gallbladder/Pancreas (HPB) and Upper-gastrointestinal surgery.

Mr Sheen is one of three specialist HPB surgeons at Manchester Royal Infirmary and spent his training years as a specialist registrar in Manchester. During this time, he obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) for his research into gene therapy for metastatic liver cancer from Manchester University. This was followed by a year spent in specialist training at the liver and transplantation unit in Leeds.

The commonest surgery performed by Mr Sheen is laparoscopic cholecystectomy (Keyhole gallbladder surgery) and hernia repair for which Mr Sheen has a national and international reputation with the use of tissue glue.

Mr Sheen's research interests are focussed on advancing techniques of hernia surgery especially with the use of non penetrating fixation which he has published on as well as chairing both international and national courses. For his Hernia expertise Mr Sheen is in the council of the British Hernia Society.

In March 2011 Mr Sheen was awarded a 'Visiting Professorship' in the United States for his Hernia expertise.

Mr Sheen was born and educated in London then faced the winters of Scotland for five years at medical school. His main social interests include squash, cycling and swimming. He also spent some years as a junior doctor at Silverstone motor racing circuit as a medical officer.
