The General Medical Council (GMC) urges cosmetic procedure patients to question doctors before going ahead with treatment

As tough standards for doctors carrying out cosmetic practice come into force – covering everything from fillers to face lifts – the GMC has published a guide to help potential patients research and receive safe, high quality cosmetic care.

Mr Gerard Lambe, Consultant Plastic and Cosmetic Surgeon said "Recently the GMC issued new guidance for patients who are seeking cosmetic surgery. They echo the high standards that all Spire Plastic surgeons work to and we welcome the GMC coming on board. The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) has emphasised the need for all patients to ‘do their homework’ before proceeding with cosmetic surgery since 2010. It is vitally important to know that you have a fully qualified, experienced surgeon who will look after you through your whole surgical journey and who will allow you a cooling off period as an operation cannot be returned to the shop! Using the internet it is very easy to check a surgeons registration with BAAPS and BAPRAS who are the official organisations for Plastic Surgeons. At spire you can be confident that you will have a team that exceeds the GMC standards and above all we want you to be safe and happy following your operation"
