Dr Jennifer Yell, Consultant Dermatologist at Spire Cheshire Hospital appears on Channel 4 Embarrassing bodies

A lady who had been suffering from a sperm allergy appeared on Channel 4's 'Embarrassing Bodies' and was referred to Dr Jennifer Yell, consultant dermatologist at Spire Cheshire Hospital, by Dr Pixie one of the show's TV doctors.

As the name suggests, 'Embarrassing Bodies' is a programme centred on helping patients with health issues that they find embarrassing or that they have found no help with treating previously.

Human Seminal Plasma Hypersensitivity (sperm allergy) reactions may begin to occur within five to 30 minutes after intercourse, and symptoms can include genital itching, burning, and swelling. However, there is some good news. Firstly, it’s a rare condition. In fact, there have only been 100 confirmed cases. And secondly, desensitisation therapy (including administering allergy shots containing small doses of the male partner’s semen) requires the afflicted woman and her partner to have sex at least two or three times a week.
