Diabetes is an increasingly common disorder which results in the level of sugar in the blood being too high. This usually occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin. Diabetes can be easily diagnosed through a blood test to measure the level of sugar in the blood.

There are two main types of diabetes – type I and type II – type II is the most common and is usually treated through diet, exercise and drug treatment. Type I diabetes more commonly occurs in young people and always requires treatment of insulin injections.
Blood testing is also used to monitor the effectiveness of treatment with drugs or insulin. Common tests include blood glucose and the HbA1C test. A small sample of blood is taken and tested in our laboratories.
