I was educated in Shrewsbury and qualified from Birmingham Medical School with honours in 1977, receiving undergraduate awards in surgery and general practice. I was appointed as lecturer in anatomy at the University of Nottingham for two years before training in otolaryngology and plastic surgery in Nottingham, Birmingham and Coventry. My overseas attachment was to the University Hospital,Graz, Austria for training in the management of sinusitis with functional endoscopic sinus surgery. My practice covers all aspects of diseases of the ears, nose and throat. I have a special clinical link with paediatric audiologists to manage cases of deafness in children and I work with a senior audiologist for assesment of deafness and the provision of NHS or private hearing aids. I also work with a hearing and tinnitus therapist. My practice includes the diagnosis and management of allergic conditions of the nose, throat, sinuses and obstructive nasal deformity. I have an interest in all forms of swallowing disorders and hoarseness and I work with specialist speech and language therapists in the Warrington, Halton and surrounding areas.

I am a committed Christian and Sunday School teacher, a past president of the Rotary Club of Warrington and a competitive bridge player. I have done voluntary ENT work in Romania and I am currently studying for a CCE (Certificate of Continuing Education) at the University of Cambridge. I enjoy golf and am past president of the Warrington Medical Golf Society. I also play competitive squash and badminton and enjoy skiing. My family have been involved in farming for generations and I still own and manage a 200 acre farm in Shropshire. I have one son who is studying at Leicester Medical School and one daughter who is a teenager (need I say more?).
