Background Information
Professional profile:
I have been consulting at the Spire Cheshire Hospital since my appointment as Consultant in 1995. My appointment followed training in Blackpool and Edinburgh amongst other places. General practitioners refer patients with cataract, glaucoma, squint, lacrimal (tear sac) disorders and retinal problems. An orthoptist assists in the work up of squint and glaucoma. Minor surgery is carried out as a day case and major surgery as an in-patient where the patient desires/needs it. Small incision, sutureless, cataract surgery with intra-ocular lens implantation is carried out under either local or general anaesthesia, depending upon need and circumstances. Lacrimal surgery can be carried out with laser, teaming up with the ear nose and throat surgeon. The Spire Cheshire Hospital has two lasers, one for retinal work and the other to clear opacities after cataract surgery.
Personal profile:
I am married with two children. I enjoy music and reading particularly semi-fictional historical novels. I play squash and cricket. During holiday periods I travel extensively with the family.
