My main interests within general surgery are in breast disease and hepato-biliary disease, the latter in relation to laparoscopic surgery and the surgery of complex biliary disease. My main research interests are in mathematical modelling in healthcare.
I am the inventor of the POSSUM system and I administer an international database of risk adjusted outcome measures of twenty countries including the United Kingdom.
I am also the Clinical Audit Development Director overseeing national clinical audit for the Department of Health.
