Professional profile:

I am a general surgeon with an interest in gastroenterology, gastroscopy, colonoscopy and upper and lower GI surgery including laparoscopic cholecystectomy and laparoscopic appendicectomy.

More than 75% of my work is day case surgery. This includes paediatric surgery for children (over 3 years of age) needing circumcision, hernias, orchidopexies etc. For adults I perform Lichtenstein hernia repairs with poly propylene mesh and have a special interest in sportsman's hernia (Gilmore's groin) with links to several rugby league, soccer and ice-hockey clubs.
I am a life member of TOAST (www.toast-uk.org) which is committed to ensuring that people whose lives are directly affected by obesity have a voice to impact policy, treatment and services. I have been trained and commissioned to supervise a slimming clinic.

Personal profile:

I was born in Warrington, ex Botler Grammar. I am married to Pauline who is a retired GP and we have four children. We are keen evangelical Christians and I used to pastor a local church and still preach regularly in many churches in Cheshire and Lancashire. I founded (with Pauline) the Wellspring Trust (a charity for bereavement and cancer counselling) We support and are medical advisors to a school and hospital in Uganda for the christian charity Just Care. The family enjoys holidays at Gibbes House, our plantation house near the west coast of Barbados.
