Mr Nikhil Pradhan, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Cheshire Hospital is one of the first surgeons in the northwest to launch a patient specific total knee replacement. This ground breaking surgery provides more of a custom fit specifically for you, regardless of age, race, size or gender.
How Signature Knee works
An MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) 3D scan is used to plan the use of the Signature custom femoral and tibial alignment guides, that enables the surgeon to create a detailed pre-operative surgery plan, tailored to the patient's specific requirements.
Mr Pradhan states “The Signature technology and custom made alignment guides allow me, the surgeon to accurately recreate the patient’s original limb alignment providing a knee replacement which replicates the patient’s unique anatomy”. By recreating the patient’s individual anatomy the surgeon can provide the optimal post operative result.
This less invasive surgical procedure, is similar to a traditional knee replacement but without the requirement to place instruments inside the thigh and shin bone to assist with alignment and positioning. This can significantly effect the outcome of the procedure by reducing medical complications and long term loosening rates.
