The captain of the Cayman Islands' national women's rugby team travelled more than 9,000 miles for treatment at Spire Cheshire Hospital.
Rowena Lawrence, professional rugby player and laywer, started suffering from back pain nine weeks ago, culminating in excruciating pains that resulted in a trip to the hospital.
She saw a consultant on Grand Cayman but this did not help the problem, so a desperate Rowena decided to seek treatment at Spire Cheshire, after her mother was treated for back problem by consultant Dr Chris Wells over 10 years ago.
She said: "I flew over because my life for the past nine weeks had been transformed from what it usually was. I am a very fit and active person but this condition meant that I could not take part in day-to-day activities".
