New treatment for dry age macular degeneration

The IOL-VIP system

Spire Cheshire Hospital have launched a new treatment for dry age related macular degeneration - the IOL-VIP system (intra-ocular lens for visually impaired people)

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a common disease of the retina that occurs in some people as part of the aging process. It can cause loss of central vision and in some cases make everyday activities such as reading, writing and driving difficult.

Treatment options for dry AMD are limited, but the IOL-VIP system has shown promising results, providing patients with macular disease with an improvement in their central vision. The procedure takes about 30 minutes and there is no need for an overnight stay in hospital.

The treatment will be available from September, to find out more information please call
