Changing the way in which you eat is often difficult. That’s why at Spire Cardiff Hospital we offer a comprehensive program of behavioural, dietetic and exercise interventions to help you through this transition.
There’s no food supplements, no gastric balloons just access to a full range of specialists that can help you manage your lifestyle changes. Everyone is different; therefore our one to one approach of consultations is designed to meet your individual requirements.
This program provides you with access to key specialists over a 6 month period with an additional 6 monthly sessions over 6 months with our clinical nurse specialist. Therefore you have a whole year to ask advice and manage your lifestyle changes. This program is designed for the long term therefore it’s important that we are there to support you throughout.
Why is it different from other commercial programs?
The program guides you through the changes you need to make by enabling you access to specialists with years of experience in weight loss management. Very few other commercial programs provide you with regular consultations with a physician, experienced dieticians, trained clinical nurse specialists and a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) counsellor. Whereas many other commercial programs view their customers as a group, we prefer to offer a one to one approach, which ensures the subject topics are discussed and reviewed with solely you in mind. Due to the level of engagement with the specialists you won’t find a program in Wales that is able to offer the same level of expertise. This multidisciplinary approach, with access to surgical experience on the same site, is unique in Wales.
How does the program work?
You first consultation will be with our Consultant Physician Dr Dev Datta who specialises in non-surgical weight loss management. He will undertake a detailed medical consultation. This will ensure that you are fit to enrol in the program and to ensure the program can be adapted for any of your personal requirements.
He will also refer you for blood tests that measure significant markers for heart risk and diabetes such as you lipid profile and HbA1C as well as a heart tracing (ECG). Further testing of hormone levels will be undertaken if it is clinically appropriate. If there are any obvious problems, we will be able to spot them early. Some patients may also wish to embark on a course of weight loss management drugs which can be discussed with Dr Datta.
Dr Datta will then discuss the program and ask what you would like to achieve. This way our multidisciplinary team can support you throughout the program.
No long term sustainable weight loss is easy, and changing the way in which you make your life choices can be even more difficult. That’s why we’ve chosen a multidisciplinary team approach to help you through this adjustment.
