I started as a consultant in 1996 after a very broad training in Gynaecology and infertility. I had a long apprenticeship in minimal access (keyhole) surgery covering all aspects. I am particularly interested in endometriosis surgery and excise of the disease. Often this surgery is very difficult and requires care and extreme patience if a good result is to be obtained with a low complication rate. I regularly attend international meetings and benchmark the Cardiff teams activity against the world leaders techniques.
Cardiff is currently recognized as a British Society for Gynecological Endoscopy Endometriosis Centre and we have a UK wide appointed senior trainee.
I offer hysterectomy by the vaginal route in the majority of cases (no scars) and am currently recognized by the AAGL as a tutor for this approach to hysterectomy.
I endeavor to treat fibroids conservatively removing them either with the hysteroscope or laparoscope.
Together with my colleague professor Amso I offer a service for laparoscopic reversal of sterilization following the Charles Koh Technique .
I also have an interest in the psychological aspects of Gynaecology including difficulties with intercourse. My main interest in pre-menstrual syndrome covers all aspects of management particularly in severe cases. I have helped to develop an online symptom tracking tool www.timeformedcine .com
I try to offer a range of treatment options and involve the patient in her management plan, after she has gained an understanding of the benefits and disadvantages or risks of each potential treatment. I try to be objective and honest.
