Leong Y. Hiew graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1992. Following early surgical training in the West of Scotland, he became a Fellow of the Royal college of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1998. He then pursued his research interest in breast surgery within a higher degree research programme in Glasgow, with a focus on breast screening.
After early training in Plastic Surgery in teaching hospitals in Leeds and Manchester, Leong Y. completed his plastic surgical training within the Welsh deanery training programme, having worked in hospitals in Liverpool, Chester and Swansea. To complete his sub specialist training, he undertook a further fellowship as an oncoplastic breast fellow in Manchester. He was awarded his UK certificate of completion of specialist training in plastic surgery in 2005. He was appointed as a consultant to the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery in 2006. He works closely with his colleagues to offer a comprehensive breast reconstruction service as his sub specialist field.
Leong Y. has presented widely internationally and authored papers and book chapters in the field of Plastic surgery. He updates his interest in research by attending international meetings and is active in the continual training of junior surgeons in the NHS
