I am a Consultant Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgeon and lead clinician at the Welsh Institute of Metabolic and Obesity Surgery, Morriston Hospital, Swansea.
Following qualifying in Cardiff in 1996 I completed my basic surgical training in South Wales and submitted a higher degree on gastric cancer awarded in 2006 by the University of Wales. On completion of higher surgical training I spent 15 months in specialist fellowship training in bariatric surgery in Liverpool prior to taking up my post in Swansea.
I have a number of roles in Swansea University holding Honorary Senior Lecturer status and continue to teach bariatric surgery National and Internationally. I have had a number of appearances on radio and television and furthermore have actively engaged at Government level regarding Obesity strategy pathways in Wales.
I am widely published in areas of bariatric surgery, particularly in the early metabolic response to surgery.
I am the Welsh Representative for the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland together with Regional Specialty Professional Advisor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
I live in Cardiff and am an active supporter of many types of spectator sports.
