Professional profile:

Mr Clark qualified from the University of Manchester in 1984. He trained in Manchester, Cardiff and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He took up a Consultant position in Leeds in 1998 and moved to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff in 2001.

Mr Clark provides a surgical service at Spire Cardiff Hospital for patients with gastro-intestinal complaints and hernias. Mr Clark's special interest is in diseases of the upper gastro-intestinal tract, particularly the oesphagus, stomach and gallbladder. He undertakes diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy. He provides laparoscopic surgery for patients with gall bladder disease, acid reflux disease and hiatus hernia. He has extensive experience in the accurate assessment and care of patients with cancer of the oesophagus and stomach.

Mr Clark has had considerable research experience in the field of oesophageal disease. He has recieved a number of substantial grants from Yorkshire cancer Research and The Royal College of Surgeons of England to investigate the causes of Barrett's Oesophagus and genetic basis of oesophageal cancer. he has published widely in this area during the last five years.
