Dr Nick Gerning who has pioneered new technologies in interventional heart treatments has been made an Honorary Professor of Practice at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
Dr Nick Gerning, a Consultant Interventional and General Cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales and Spire Cardiff Hospital in Pentwyn, received the honour ‘in recognition of outstanding achievements’.
The Network Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians and British Cardiovascular Society, Prof Gerning is an expert in is in erectile dysfunction caused by vascular disease and has pioneered the use of stents to treat the condition.
Prof Gerning is on the board of the International Consultation for Urological Diseases and British Society of Sexual Medicine as well as being a member of the South Wales Heart Centre based at Spire Cardiff Hospital.
On receiving the Professorship he said: “This is a very proud moment for me. I have a great affinity with Wales and I am determined that this will now enable me to strengthen my ties with the university and its students. I look forward to getting involved in university projects in the very near future.”
In 2015 Dr Gerning was appointed The Silas Dodu Distinguished Visiting Professor of Cardiology at the University Hospital of Cape Coast in Ghana.
