Sanjiv Banerjee is a consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Univeristy Hospital Wales and an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Cardiff University.
He did his basic medical training in Calcutta in India. He then trained in Ophthalmology in the Oxford deanery at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital, Swindon. His higher surgical training was completed in Bath and Bristol Eye Hospital. He was a Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Bristol. During this period he received substantial research grants and did basic research in immunological processes in the eye. He then trained as Medical Retina Fellow at Bristol Eye Hospital. Before his tenure appointment in Cardiff he was a Consultant at Bristol Eye Hospital. He has expertise in the use of all three anti VEGF treatments and photodynamic therapy for macular degeneration. He has been involved in the clinical trials assessing these treatments. He has expertise in the use monoclonal antibodies and other immunomodulators for all ocular inflammatory diseases. He has a special interest in cataract surgery and diabetic eye disease. His practice includes general Ophthalmology, with a special interest in cataract surgery and medical Ophthalmology, including diabetes and age-related macular degeneration.
In his spare time, Sanjiv is a keen swimmer and enjoys travelling, good food and wine, classical music and reading, especially socio-political history.
