Consultant General & Endocrine Surgeon, University Hospital of Wales
British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS)Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons EdinburghBritish Medical Association
I graduated from the University of Birmingham and completed my surgical training in Oxford in 2009. I completed a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) degree in molecular genetics in Oxford and went on to hold a Royal College of Surgeons Fellowship in Endocrine Surgery prior to being appointed as a consultant surgeon at University Hospital of Wales. As well as a broad experience in general and emergency surgery, I offer specialist care for patients requiring thyroidectomy for goitre (enlarged thyroid), hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and thyroid cancer, including lymph node removal. I also treat patients with hyperparathyroidism (usually manifest by high blood calcium) using minimally invasive techniques where feasible, and routinely perform laparoscopic (keyhole) adrenal surgery for those with adrenal nodules. Other areas of interest include day-case laparoscopic gallbladder and hernia surgery (incisional and groin hernia), and ambulant local anaesthetic groin hernia surgery.
I maintain an interest in research and continue to present my work at national and international meetings and publish in scientific and surgical journals. Lastly, I am committed to patient safety and contribute data on surgical outcomes both to hospital audit and the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons’ United Kingdom audit.
I am married with four energetic young children and enjoy spending my spare time with them and my lovely wife. When I get the chance, I enjoy getting out into the country, swimming, cooking and following test match cricket and rugby.
