I qualified in medicine from University College London in 1991. I undertook training mainly in London, including a PhD in immunology at the Royal Free Hospital in London. In addition, I have worked for a year in a small rural hospital in Kwazulu Natal, South Africa. I have developed special interests in the fields of ventilation and sleep medicine through my experience at St Thomas Hospital. I started as a consultant in Llandough Hospital in 2008 and became an honorary senior lecturer responsible for organising medical undergraduate teaching in Llandough in 2009.
I am lead consultant for non-invasive ventilation and tuberculosis, but see patients with a broad range of respiratory illness in my general clinic.
I am happy to see all patients with respiratory problems, but I can also offer special expertise in the fields of sleep medicine and ventilation.
Although I find my job both fascinating and rewarding, I have a wide range of interests outside medicine. I am an endurance athlete, having completed in numerous marathons and two ironmen triathlons. I continue to train on a daily basis. I am obsessed by the Brecon Beacons and love the wilderness that Wales has to offer. I also enjoy rock and ice climbing, ski mountaineering and mountain trekking.
My other interests include literature, film and chess. I am also interested in philosophy and have spent several years studying this subject with the Open University. My next challenge is to learn Welsh.
