I practised general internal and thoracic medicine in Oxford, Birmingham and Cardiff for seven years, before spending five years in immunology research in Edinburgh and Washington DC. After higher training in immunology in Birmingham I took up my present post, and I have directed the NHS Clinical Allergy and laboratory immunological diagnostic services as the only NHS consultant in allergy and clinical immunology in Wales since 1995. I am also responsible for the teaching of allergy and immunology to medical students in Wales, and to many postgraduate doctors. Activity in clinical, laboratory, teaching and research arenas ensures the highest standards of diagnosis and management of all conditions where allergy and immunological processes are involved.

The methods used in diagnosis, and the treatments recommended, are those which are endorsed by both the Royal College of Physicians of London and the Royal College of Pathologists of the UK (both of which I belong to). They are also endorsed by the corresponding European and North American Associations.

I do not use methods used by 'alternative' or complementary practitioners of Allergy, only ones firmly based on medical science. One consultation only is necessary for diagnosis and recommendations regarding treatment.

I am an unwilling but proud gardener, with a keen interest in lawn care. I engage heavily in the B&Q bargain counter and have many infrequently used tools, but will be ready for all sorts of tests when they come!

I listen to all kinds of music (classical, opera, jazz, folk and rock) on my iPOD whilst gardening, and am very keen on the Welsh National Opera. I like travelling and also skiing when my family permit such holidays.
