Following my undergraduate training in Cardiff I completed two years working in adult medicine and surgery before commencing my paediatric training. My paediatric education started in a variety of hospitals in South Wales, then took me to New Zealand, before finishing as the Lecturer in Child Health in Cardiff University. I was appointed to my consultant post in 1999.

Since 2023 I have focused on outpatient duties. Throughout my career my clinical experience has covered children of all ages with many conditions; especially those with hay fever, eczema and food allergies. My research has been predominantly into allergic diseases, medication issues, nutrition and patient safety. I lead the multidisciplinary children’s allergy service in Cardiff and founded the South Wales and West Paediatric allergy forum.

I have written many legal reports as an experienced general paediatrician. For the last decade I have been a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the Chairman of the UK’s national BNFc Paediatric Formulary Committee. Recently I was honoured to serve as the Officer for Wales for the RCPCH & President of the Welsh Paediatric Society (2018-22).
