Spire Cardiff Hospital – ward refurbishment (January 2024)

Our consultant gynaecologist’s specialise in both the surgical and non-surgical management of endometriosis and pelvic pain.
At Spire Cardiff Hospital we understand that endometriosis is a condition that can significantly impact your quality of life. The symptoms vary from patient to patient and there are numerous ways the condition can present itself. This makes it notoriously difficult to diagnose and often goes undetected which can be very frustrating. Some of the more common symptoms include pelvic pain, pain during intercourse, painful bowel movements and painful, heavy or irregular periods.
Our consultants
Our consultant gynaecologist’s specialise in both the surgical and non-surgical management of endometriosis and pelvic pain. With plenty of experience from their NHS posts, our consultants are able to manage and treat even the most complex cases.
Endometriosis often causes problems in other areas of the body including your bowel and urinary system. In these cases we also have specialists that work in conjunction with your endometriosis specialist to ensure you have the right multidisciplinary team to meet your needs.
Our Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) also offers a clinic to enable a greater understanding and awareness. By gaining an in depth analysis of your symptoms, evaluating previous management options and assessment of current symptoms and concerns, our CNS will work with you to develop an individualised care plan to enable you an improved quality of life.

Treatment
To diagnose your condition we have state of the art diagnostic testing, including hysteroscopy.
There are both surgical and non-surgical treatment options for endometriosis.
In some cases, patients may need to undergo surgical removal of the endometriosis which may be through laparoscopic excision (often referred to as keyhole surgery). Surgical removal may have a number of benefits including improvement of pelvic pain and may also prevent patients from requiring a hysterectomy. Additionally, for those couples trying to conceive, a surgical option may also enhance the chances of conception.
Other procedures available for endometriosis may include endometrial ablation, endometrial scratching and in some cases, hysterectomy.
