Professional Profile
I am a high volume joint replacement surgeon (approx. 200 cases per year in the NHS). In addition I perform approximately 200 arthroscopies (keyhole surgery) per year.
I graduated from the University of Bristol. Following early surgical training in South-Wales and Plymouth, I trained on the highly regarded Orthopaedic rotation in Bristol working with some of the leading joint replacement surgeons and academics in the UK. My training focussed on hip and knee replacement surgery including minimal access techniques and revision surgery. I have undertaken a specialist arthroplasty fellowship in Cardiff prior to my Consultant appointment together with clinical visits in the UK and Europe.
My NHS practice specialises in the treatment of hip and knee arthritis and trauma. I regularly perform keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery for cartilage injuries and tears in the knee. I have a special interest in the design of knee replacements for younger patients, and technology to improve the lifespan of hip and knee replacements such as fixation to bone and the articulating surface. I regularly perform bone-sparing partial knee replacements, and advanced technology uncemented hip replacements. I utilise rapid recovery muscle sparing techniques where appropriate.
I have delivered presentations at the British Hip Society, British Orthopaedic Association, and British Association for Surgery of the Knee and the European Federation of Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
I have numerous peer-reviewed articles in such journals as The Knee, Hip International, Injury and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. I am a reviewer for Hip International.
I regularly enjoy teaching University Students, Nursing Students, Theatre Staff and junior doctors.
Personal profile
