Dr Mark Ridgewell was born in Swansea and trained at St. Mary’s Hospital, London. He has worked in elite sport since 1992. He started work as a GP in 1991, and has worked at King’s Road Surgery, Mumbles ever since. He has worked at international level across a wide variety of sports included international rugby, football, cricket, hockey, netball, cycling, and gymnastics. He has attended 2 Commonwealth Games as Physician to Team Wales and spent 3 years as Chief Medical Officer with England and Wales Cricket Board. Almost half his working week is involves running clinics for elite sportsmen and women based in Wales.
In June 2010, Dr Ridgewell became the first doctor in Wales to be appointed to the GMS Specialist Register in Sport and Exercise Medicine. Over the last 20 years Dr Ridgewell has gained considerable experience on the management of sporting injuries, specialising in the non-surgical treatment of soft tissue injuries affecting muscles, tendons and ligaments, particularly in the exercising population. He constantly updates his learning via his teaching posts and has acted as a mentor for many junior doctors over the years.
