At Spire Cardiff Hospital we know that suffering from aches and pains can be debilitating. That’s why we’ve introduced a fast new treatment, called Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) for sufferers of shoulder pain, heel pain (Plantar fasciitis) or pain in the achilles tendon. ESWT is carried out in an outpatient’s environment and requires no injections, medication or surgery. ESWT delivers shockwaves to the tissue via the surface of the skin which in turn stimulates the self healing process. The treatment takes about 30 minutes per session and most patients find considerable relief from shoulder pain, heel pain or achilles tendon in just eight to ten days following the first application. Most patients require one to three sessions at short intervals however your consultant will advise you how many personally you may require. Shock wave therapy is provided under the care of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Spire Cardiff Hospital.
