Michael Stearns undertook his registrar training at Guy's Hospital, London, and fellowships in head and neck and facial plastic training in Seattle and Portland, Oregon. He is currently an assessor for the Intercollegiate Specialty Training Board which is the exit examination for ENT trainees before they can take up a consultant appointment.
Mr Stearns has nearly 25 years of experience in consultant practice and has therefore treated a wide range of ENT disorders. His general ENT practice involves the treatment of patients with problems of the sinuses and tonsils, middle ear, tinnitus, hearing loss and dizziness. Apart from his general interest in ENT surgery he specialises in paediatric ENT, rhinoplasty and thyroid and parathyroid surgery and was lead thyroid surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital, London. He is a member of the thyroid MDT at the London Clinic.
In treating children's ENT problems, Mr Stearns sees patients with glue ear, adenoid/tonsil problems and hearing loss. He spends time with parents, understanding the child's problem and works with them to provide the best course of treatment in a warm and caring environment.
Mr Stearns also offers functional and cosmetic treatments for the nose, including rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) and septoplasty (corrects the position of the septum to remove obstructions to breathing). He has taught these procedures extensively and contributed to various publications.
