Mr Rahman completed Specialist Higher Surgical Training in major oncological centres in Yorkshire, principally as a Clinical Lecturer in the Professorial Unit at the Leeds General Infirmary and St. James's University Hospitals. He was awarded the coveted Lord Smith medal by the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain & Ireland in 2004 for his research into pancreatic disease. As a mark of his contribution to surgical research, he became a Hunterian Professor of Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2007. During his time at Leeds he was a faculty member of the Leeds Institute of Minimal Access Surgery, and achieved specialist status in major cancer surgery for the liver, pancreas, oesophagus and stomach. He was trained as an advanced specialist practitioner of laparoscopic surgery for obesity & metabolic surgery, hernias, and many other conditions. He had the privelage of undertaking fellowships in renowned centres of exellence in Hong Kong (Minimal Access Surgery) & Germany (Pancreatic & Biliary Surgery). He was appointed to a substantive Consultant post as a Pancreaticobiliary, Obesity & Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon at the prestigious Royal Free Hospital in London in 2008. He also works as part of the North London Obesity Surgery Service, based at the Whittington Hospital - one of 2 UK centres that are recognised as European Centres of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery.
