Tom R Kurzawinski is a Consultant Pancreatic and Endocrine Surgeon at the University College & Royal Free & Great Ormond Street Hospitals in London.
He was born in Poland where he graduated from Medical School and received basic surgical training. After obtaining PhD degree he moved to United Kingdom where he continued his specialist training and research in liver, pancreas and endocrine surgery.
In 1998 he was appointed to the post of Consultant Surgeon at The Middlesex Hospital and joined Mr. C. Russell’s renowned Pancreatic Unit there. Mr. Kurzawinski, named one of the Britain’s 250 best private doctors in Tatler Magazine, is also a founder of Centre for Endocrine Surgery specializing in diagnosis and surgical treatment of adults and children with diseases of the endocrine glands.
In the last 10 years he introduced to his practice several new, minimally invasive operations such as laparoscopic adrenal and pancreatic resections, ‘key hole’ parathyroid operations and thoracoscopic splanchnicectomies. His latest ventures include pancreatic surgery combined with retrieval of the islets of Langerhans and their auto-transplantation into the liver to prevent diabetes and prophylactic thyroid resections in children diagnosed with RET mutations causing medullary thyroid cancer.
Mr Kurzawinski is a General Surgeon and apart from being highly specialised in pancreatic and endocrine surgery, he also performs large numbers of more routine operations such as laparoscopic gall bladder, hernia and emergency surgery.
