    I qualified in Cairo in 1976 (MB ChB), and FRCS Edinburgh 1983. I then went on to become a doctor of medicine (MD) at the University of Leicester 1988. I did my higher surgical training in the West Midlands region and worked at most of the major Hospitals in Birmingham and the surrounding districts. I am now a consultant surgeon at Watford General Hospital and my duties cover general and vascular surgery. I have an on-call commitment 1/5. NHS work includes abdominal surgery, endocrine surgery, vascular surgery and general surgery.
    Personal profile:
    I have one son. My hobbies include scuba diving, underwater photography, woodwork and cabinet making and sailing. I enjoy travelling. I was a medical referee to the British Sub Aqua Club and enjoy diving medicine and diving physiology. I actively participate in scuba diving and photography.
