I qualified at Cambridge University in 1976 and after house jobs at University College Hospital and Addenbrookes, proceeded to general surgical training at UCH. My post fellowship training in orthopaedics included time at the Whittington Hospital and at the Hammersmith, before senior registrar posts at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital where I spent a year as lecturer at the Institute of Orthopaedics. After an overseas sabbatical at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia, I became consultant in orthopaedics and trauma at Watford General Hospital in 1993, beginning at Spire Bushey Hospital simultaneously. At Spire Bushey Hospital, as at Watford, my practice encompasses the great majority of orthopaedics and trauma. Hip replacement, knee replacement, arthroscopy of the knee, carpal tunnel decompression, trigger finger release and arthroscopic shoulder surgery account for the majority of my work.

I have an active medic-legal practice preparing around 200 reports a year for personal injury claims.

I am an associate of the Medical Journalists Association.
