Professional profile:

After completing the basic surgical training in Newcastle upon Tyne, Mr Al-Bahrani was involved in a 2 year research project at University of Manchester rewarded MD degree from same University. His higher surgical training was at Eastern Deanery where he worked at West Herts Hospitals, Luton & Dunstable hospital, Ipswich hospital and his final year was in the OG cancer centre at Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge.

After Mr Al-Bahrani obtained the CCT, he worked as senior post-CCT registrar in OG cancer centre at Broomfield hospital. He has trained comprehensively in both benign and malignant upper GI surgery (both open and laparoscopic), HPB surgery, hernia surgery (open/laparoscopic).

Since January 2011, he was appointed as consultant upper GI (OG cancer resection) surgeon at both West Herts and East & North Herts Hospital (permanent post) within the Mount Vernon Cancer Network. In addition, he also performs open and laparoscopic surgery for benign upper GI conditions (anti-reflux, achalasia, hiatus hernia and paraoesophageal hernia), biliary surgery, hernia surgery and other gastrointestinal surgery.

Mr Al-Bahrani has a lead role in the newly introduced enhanced recovery programme for the upper GI cases at Watford General Hospital that will speed patient journey and ensure safe uneventful recovery following major resection surgery.

He started his private practice at Spire Bushey in summer 2011.

Personal profile:

Mr Al-Bahrani is a family man who lives with his wife (a local GP) and his two daughters.
In his spare time  he enjoys DIY, tennis, travelling and organising social events and re-union parties.
