Breast cancer is unfortunately common in Western populations and increasing in incidence globally. Modern treatment of breast cancer involves mutliple disciplines. Surgery for breast cancer has undergone evolution and refinement and it is vital for patients to have access to information and counselling to enable them to make an informed choice.
Miss Lee-Min Lai is a specialist breast surgeon, diagnosing and treating patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease. She also has an interest in breast reconstruction and transformational surgery. At Spire Bushey, Miss Lai offers a triple assessment breast clinic service on a Friday evening for women who have found a lump or other symptoms in their breast. Following referral by a GP, patients undergo full assessment including specialist breast imaging which may include digital mammogram, ultrasound or MRI as appropriate. During the course of their visit, patients are seen by both Miss Lai, Dr Sonia Narula - the specialist breast radiologist and a breast care nurse. For patients interested in a women only team for their treatment, Miss Lai's clinic offers a sympathetic and caring approach.
Miss Lai qualified in medicine and surgery from University of Wales College of Medicine following which she received core training in general, trauma and plastic surgery in South Wales. This was followed by higher surgical training in Northwest Thames with subspeciality placements in breast surgery at Charing Cross and Royal Marsden Hospitals. During her final year Miss Lee Min Lai was accepted into the National Oncoplastic fellowship programme where she gained further experience in breast reconstructive surgery at the Royal Hospital Haslar, Portsmouth.
