Dr Cairn provides an outpatient practice, which covers all aspects of respiratory medicine, at Spire Harpenden Hospital, where he has access to excellent diagnostic facilities such as state of the art CT thorax imaging and detailed lung function studies.
In addition to his comprehensive respiratory and general medical training in the North West Thames region, he has also successfully completed sub-specialty training in lung cancer, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, sleep medicine, respiratory infection and lung transplantation.
His research at Harefield and the Royal Brompton Hospitals focused on the diagnosis of small airways disease following lung transplantation and culminated in the postgraduate degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of London.
Dr Cairn’s NHS practice is based at St Albans City Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, Watford Hospital and Harefield Hospital. He runs outpatient clinics at St Albans City Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and Harefield Hospital. He looks after inpatients and carries out fibreoptic bronchoscopy at Watford General Hospital.
At Harefield Hospital, Dr Cairn has a fibreoptic bronchoscopy list and has access to interventional thoracic radiology services, thoracic surgery and specialised respiratory physiology services (such as sleep studies).
