Nurse Consultant Kate Hoffmann Is New Deputy Matron At Spire Bristol Hospital

19th May 2009

Kate Hoffmann has been appointed deputy matron at Spire Bristol Hospital, the South West’s largest independent hospital.

One of the UK’s few practising nurse consultants in critical care – experienced nurses who specialise in intensive and critical care and are responsible for developing personal practice - she trained at St. Thomas Hospital, London, and has worked in, and managed, intensive care units throughout the UK.

The holder of an MSc in Health Care Education from Sheffield Hallam University, Kate Hoffmann is an advanced life support instructor for the NHS and has a specific interest in cardiology and cardiac surgery.

She was appointed deputy theatre manager at Spire Bristol Hospital in 2007 and has been nurse consultant (critical care) since October last year, having set up new critical care outreach and pain management teams as part of a drive to improve the clinical service for patients throughout the hospital.
“Working alongside our matron, Louise Daniel, my role is to act as a clinical link between departments, addressing all of the issues which affect the `patient journey’”, says Kate Hoffmann. “At the centre of my role is the need to consolidate the hospital’s position as a national centre of excellence for cardiac, neuro and spinal surgery.”

“Whereas Louise has been at the hospital for over 20 years, Kate’s background is entirely within the NHS,” added hospital director Rob Anderson.

“I believe their differing but complementary career paths and skill sets are the reason why the two of them gel so superbly, for the overall benefit of the hospital and its patients.”
