Spire Bristol Hospital supports African nurses

July 2011

Spire Bristol Hospital has recently provided Friends of African Nurses with an annual supply of eye protection, enabling their nurses to protect themselves form blood borne disease.

Friends of African Nursing (FoAN) is a small UK based charity which is run entirely by volunteers and works to deliver education to nurses in a variety of African nations, who otherwise would not have the opportunity to access any continuing education.

Kate Woodhead, Chairman of Trustees, said “We are really grateful to Spire Bristol Hospital for their generous donation to assist the perioperative nurses in Africa.  The sponsorship of eye protection for all the nurses who we teach will really make a difference to them.”

Louise Daniel, Matron at Spire Bristol Hospital, added “At Spire Hospital, we are hugely aware of the importance of wearing personal protective equipment, and I am therefore delighted that we are able to support our colleagues in Africa by providing a years supply of eye protection.”
