Sport and Orthopaedic Clinic (SOC) Bristol (www.soc-bristol.co.uk), based at the Spire Bristol Hospital, are delighted to announce that Mr Mehool Acharya has joined the consultant group. Known to friends and colleagues as Mez, Mr Acharya has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, particularly pelvic and acetabular fracture reconstruction, hip replacement and revision arthroplasty at North Bristol NHS Trust since 2011. He was an undergraduate in Leeds and is well known to his colleagues having spent a year's fellowship here in Bristol training with SOC consultants Mr Tony Ward and Mr Timothy Chesser. He also spent a year as a fellow in Perth, Western Australia following higher surgical training on the Leicester registrar rotation. As the most recent addition to SOC since Mr Iain Packham (shoulder and elbow), who joined two years ago, he adds to the hip expertise available and complements the other subspecialties on offer at SOC.
In other SOC news we congratulate Mr John Hardy (knees and hands) on his recent election as orthopaedic lead on the Spire Bristol Hospital medical advisory committee. Also to Mr Ian Winson (foot and ankle), on his recent appointment to an executive post within the British Orthopaedic Association council, and foot and ankle colleagues Mr Bill Harries and Mr Steve Hepple on their positions within the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society council. Mr Mark Crowther (shoulder and elbow) enters his third year as the Training Programme Director for the 60 orthopaedic registrars on rotation based in Bristol including the surrounding acute trusts.
Despite all these extra responsibilities and commitments, SOC continues to provide the wide range of orthopaedic and sports injury expertise. This includes up-to-date arthroscopic and open surgical techniques as well as the office based Shockwave treatment which can be beneficial to conditions such as recalcitrant plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow.
The hugely successful SOC GP and Physio study days continue, with the next being held on Wednesday 2nd April 2014 at the Pavilion Suite, Bristol Zoo. For further details please contact practice manager Ms Jo Millard on 0117 317 1796 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
