Gallbladder removal: what to expect at Spire Bristol Hospital

With Spire, you’ll first attend a consultation where your consultant will determine which particular procedure is required. This usually involves keyhole surgery through small incisions, but sometimes open surgery is required.

On the day of your procedure, you’ll be taken to your private room and any family or friends will be shown to our relaxed waiting area. You’ll then be placed under anaesthetic for a simple operation that usually takes two hours or so. If you’ve had keyhole surgery you may be able to leave the same day, but comfortable stays of a few days are needed for open surgery patients.
