Endometriosis is a condition which affects millions of women in the UK. Common places for endometriosis are the ovaries, behind the womb and occasionally on the bowel or bladder.
Around 10 - 15% of women of childbearing age may suffer from endometriosis
At the Bristol Endometriosis Clinic you will be seen by Consultant Gynaecologist and Director of the Southmead Encometriosis Centre, Mr Sanjay Vyas. He will begin your care with a detailed assessment of your symptoms. We ask you to fill in a questionnaire, which has been developed specifically for women who have endometriosis. This means that we do not miss out any important parts of your story and also to audit the results of your treatment. It is also helpful to have details of any previous operations you have had, so please also bring any letters that have been written about your endometriosis if you have them.
Mr Vyas will also perform an internal examination and a transvaginal ultrasound scan to look closely at your womb and ovaries.
Following this assessment, he will discuss the options available. Depending on your symptoms, severity of endometriosis and fertility wishes, you may also need to see other members of the team. If surgery is the best option for you, we will discuss the likely benefits, risks and recovery in detail.
