Background Information
Professional profile:
I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at North Bristol NHS Trust in 2005. I have an elective and emergency practice sub-specialising in the shoulder and elbow surgery. My particular interests include open and arthroscopic shoulder surgery for conditions including rotator cuff tears, recurrent instability and dislocated AC joints. I have experience of all types of shoulder replacement.

My undergraduate medical training was at St Mary's Hospital (Imperial College) in London (1988-1993). I spent six months as a World Orthopaedic Concern volunteer surgeon in rural South Africa during 1997-8. I undertook higher surgical training as a Specialist Registrar on the South West (North) rotation based in Bristol (1999-2005). My advanced surgical fellowship training for 1 year (2004) was at the Melbourne Shoulder and Elbow Clinic in Australia and the Cape Shoulder Institute in Cape Town, South Africa.

In 2006 I was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate of Medical Education from the University of Bristol and in 2008 will become the postgraduate tutor for orthopaedic registrar teaching.
Personal profile:
I am married with two young daughters and live in Bristol. I have played many years of team sport including several seasons of local league rugby for North Bristol RFC where I was player of the season 1999-2000. More recently rugby has changed to the touch variety.

I am a member of the Gloucestershire Gypsies and the Cryptics Cricket Clubs and play enthusiastic squash in a highly competitive medics ladder. I also ski, swim and play tennis and golf as time allows.
