Background Information
Professional profile:
I read preclinical medicine at Cambridge, and clinical medicine at Oxford before undertaking my basic surgical training in London and Cambridge. I then proceeded to higher surgical training in Urology at Oxford and at the National Spinal Injury Centre, Stoke Mandeville, before being appointed Lecturer at the University of Newcastle.

As a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Southmead Hospital, I provide a service for general urology referrals. My superspecialist role is to develop a supraregional referral centre for the management of overactive bladder symptoms and restoration of urinary continence, offering all recognised treatment options, including sacral neuromodulation, artificial urinary sphincter, bladder injections of botulinum toxin (BoTox), transobturator tape (TOT), transvaginal tape (TVT) and minimally-invasive slings.

I am a lead clinician for the regional urodynamics unit and have published numerous book chapters, articles in the Lancer and in the foremost urological specialist journals. I am a member of both scientific committees of the World Health Organisation International Consultation on Incontinence 3rd ICI, the foremost body of experts recognised worldwide.

I have received prizes from the European Association of Urology and the Arris and Gale Lecture, awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons for outstanding contributions to physiology. I am chairman of the plenary session on Female Urology at the annual meeting of the British Association of Urological Surgeons. I sit on peer-review panels for several British, European and American scientific journals and research grant-awarding bodies. I am Principal Investigator for the "Scientific Insight" programme at the Bristol Urological Institute.
