    Frank Smith trained comprehensively in general and vascular surgery in posts in the West Midlands, Edinburgh, Bristol and the South West. Specialist vascular and endovascular training was undertaken during a Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh Travelling Fellowship to the United Sates in 1996, to Boston, Denver, Los Angeles and Seattle.
