Background Information 
Professional profile:
I have had the privilege of being a Consultant Gynaecologist for 12 years and have wide experience in the medical, psychological and surgical management of gynaecological conditions including menstrual disorders; pelvic pain and painful periods; post-menopausal problems; the evaluation and treatment of women with abnormal cervical smears (colposcopy); prolapse and vaginal problems, and many other conditions. I have long realised that even quite minor gynaecological problems can have a significant impact on a woman's overall well-being, and that any treatment whether medical or surgical needs to be individually planned with her.

As a consultant at St Michael's Hospital, I undertake gynaecology and colposcopy clinic plus two theatre sessions each week, and am responsible for approximately 1500 out-patient consultations and 500 gynaecological operations per year. As a Senior Lecturer Gynaecology at the University of Bristol, I have a prime role in organising the teaching of obstetrics & gynaecology to 270 student doctors a year. My research interests have centred on the immune response to Human Papilloma Virus [HPV] in the cervix, and I am delighted that effective vaccines have now been developed so that cervical cancer will be less common in the future.
Personal profile:
During my training years I spent an enjoyable 2 years as a Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, and worked briefly in the UAE in addition to training posts in Manchester, Norfolk, Exeter and Bristol. A further enjoyable 2 years were spent at the Paterson [Cancer Research] Institute in Manchester researching HPV and cancer of the cervix. My wandering days long since over I happily live in Bristol with my husband and two young daughters, enjoying opera, theatre, skiing, swimming and occasional tennis.
